N-Power Programme has rendered many Npower batches A and B who entered the programme at the age of 30 years and above unemployable because of the age factor.
Npower Programme is a great Programme no doubt about that because it assists Beneficiaries of the Programme with temporary employment and relief from poverty.
However, the disadvantage of the Npower Programme to Npower batch A and B graduates is the age discrimination in employment. Some of them can no longer apply for government jobs because they have exceeded the 18-35 age limit for job Recruitment.
Some of them were at the age of 30 when they applied for the Npower Programme in 2016, spend almost five years in the Programme receiving stipends of N30,000 and are now above 35 years old.
The sudden disengagement of the 500,000 N-Power batch A and C Volunteers has left those who are above the age of 35 without anyone who can help them secure a job due to their age limit no choice rather than to start their own business. This is why it is very important that government must take drastic measures to assist these youths.
Though the government has set up a transition Programme call Nexit for the Exited Npower batches A and B Volunteers, action needed to be taken for quick Implementation of the next opportunities so that these youths that are above the employment age limit can kick start their business.
