Judicial Fellowship Program for Recent Law Graduates
The 2023–2024 Judicial Fellowship Program is now accepting applications from qualified colleges worldwide, according to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) (formerly known as the University Traineeship Programme).
To give new law graduates the opportunity to get professional experience working at the ICJ, the Programme was founded in 1999. The Fellowship Programme actively involves participants in the work of the Court and gives them the chance to build on their experience while working under the supervision of a judge, with the goal of improving their grasp of public international law and the Court’s procedures.
There are more scholarships available right now in many nations in Europe, the US, and Canada. Check out a few of the options listed below:

Category: Fellowships and Training
All countries are eligible.
Financial sponsorship is the reward.
February 5, 2023 is the deadline.
Details:
The Judicial Fellows collaborate with the judge’s chief legal assistant while working full-time under the direction of a member of the court. The Judicial Fellows can anticipate participating in the Court’s open hearings, conducting research and writing memos on legal issues or factual details of cases now before the Court, and carrying out other tasks delegated by their judge.
Early September through early June of the following year make up the approximate ten-month term of the Fellowship.
Up to 15 participants every year from different colleges throughout the world are often accepted by the Court.
Requirements:
Universities are urged to restrict nominations to those who have excelled in their legal studies and have proven a passion for public international law by their research, writing, and/or professional experience.
Participants are required to be fluent in at least one of the two official languages of the Court, which are English and French. A plus is having some proficiency in the second official language.
Candidates must be under 31 years old when the Fellowship starts in order to be considered. In exceptional cases, it may be possible to waive this criterion. The Court seeks candidates of all nationalities while making its choice.
Although only one candidate may be proposed, the Court urges colleges to submit more than one nominee.
Reward
The UN Secretary-General created a trust fund for the Judicial Fellowship Programme in April 2021 in accordance with resolution 75/129.
The trust fund’s goal is to give fellowships to deserving candidates who are citizens of developing nations attending institutions in developing nations, enhancing and ensuring the geographic and linguistic variety of Program participants.
Trust fund awards are meant to help students recommended by institutions in underdeveloped nations that lack the financial resources to give financial support.
