An agreement between the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS/UNESCO) led to the creation of the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship for the growth of science in poor nations.
Up to 40 scholars/students from developing nations will be supported for up to four years of PhD study in China.

Scholarship Information:
An international non-profit, non-governmental organization called the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) was established in 2018. 37 academic institutions, international organizations, and scientific organizations from throughout the world are founding members. The objectives of ANSO are to advance wider S&T collaboration and communication, as well as regional and global capability in science and technology, human livelihoods, and wellness.
With the intention of developing young scientists from all over the world, the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hence referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was formally inaugurated in 2019.
Every year, 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students are given financial assistance through the ANSO Scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), or CAS institutes located throughout China.
Conditions for Scholarships:
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must:
Candidates must not be of Chinese nationality;
Nationals of qualifying developing nations in the south are required to apply (Developing Countries in the South | TWAS).
Candidates must be fluent in either Chinese or English to be eligible;
candidates for the PhD program must have been born after January 1, 1988, inclusive;
Candidates that are qualified must satisfy USTC/foreign UCAS’s student admission requirements;
During the duration of their scholarship, eligible applicants should not accept any other assignments.
The candidate will not be qualified for the PhD program of this scholarship if they are already working toward a doctoral degree at a Chinese university or other institution.
Otherwise, he or she will not be admitted, and the incident will be reported to the existing college or institution.
If you apply for the ANSO Scholarship through USTC and UCAS at the same time, you will be ineligible for admission.

Note
Items 1 through 4 will be covered by CAS, and items 5 and 6 will be covered by TWAS/UNESCO.
The criteria and procedures for item 5 and item 6’s reimbursements and allowances will adhere to TWAS/UNESCO guidelines.
Any recipient of a scholarship who was physically present in China, the host nation, at the time of application will NOT be qualified for any travel assistance.
All recipients of awards must complete centralized instruction in Chinese language, Chinese culture, all prerequisite credits, practical research, and completion of their degree thesis at colleges and schools affiliated with USTC/UCAS or CAS institutes.
If a PhD recipient fails the qualification exam or annual assessment, they may be subject to the following penalties:
• The end of his or her scholarship;
• A break in his or her PhD studies;
• Receiving a certificate of attendance but not a formal PhD degree for the time spent studying in China.
All recipients of awards are expected to follow Chinese law as well as USTC/UCAS guidelines.
Approach to Application
Before the deadline, complete and submit your application using the USTC/UCAS admissions system as instructed.
